The woman was found around 9:23 p.m. Sunday when officers from the Fairfield Police Department responded to a home on Catamount Road for a domestic violence call, said Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras.
Initial officers arrived on scene and found a serious a domestic assault had taken place inside the home and quickly took the suspect, James Taylor, 76, of Redding Road, Fairfield, into custody.
During the initial investigation, officers found a woman dead on the scene, Kalamaras said.
It was later determined that Taylor had forced entry into the home with a firearm and fired at the victim. A struggle ensued between the victim’s son, who heard the disturbance, and Taylor, Kalamaras said.
Police arrived shortly after and took Taylor into custody.
Taylor has been charged with murder, attempted murder, home invasion, burglary, assault, and illegal discharge of a firearm, Kalamaras said.
He is being held on $1 million bond. Taylor is set to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court Monday morning.
The case is currently under investigation by the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau.
